อนฺธกวินฺทสุตฺต
At Andhakavinda
เอกํ สมยํ ภควา มคเธสุ วิหรติ อนฺธกวินฺเทฯ อถ โข อายสฺมา อานนฺโท เยน ภควา เตนุปสงฺกมิ; อุปสงฺกมิตฺวา ภควนฺตํ อภิวาเทตฺวา เอกมนฺตํ นิสีทิฯ เอกมนฺตํ นิสินฺนํ โข อายสฺมนฺตํ อานนฺทํ ภควา เอตทโวจ:
At one time the Buddha was staying in the land of the Magadhans at Andhakavinda. Then Venerable Ānanda went up to the Buddha, bowed, and sat down to one side. The Buddha said to him:
“เย เต, อานนฺท, ภิกฺขู นวา อจิรปพฺพชิตา อธุนาคตา อิมํ ธมฺมวินยํ, เต โว, อานนฺท, ภิกฺขู ปญฺจสุ ธมฺเมสุ สมาทเปตพฺพา นิเวเสตพฺพา ปติฏฺฐาเปตพฺพาฯ กตเมสุ ปญฺจสุ?
“Ānanda, those bhikkhus who are junior, recently gone forth, newly come to this teaching and training should be encouraged, supported, and established in five things. What five?
‘เอถ ตุเมฺห, อาวุโส, สีลวา โหถ, ปาติโมกฺขสํวรสํวุตา วิหรถ อาจารโคจรสมฺปนฺนา อณุมตฺเตสุ วชฺเชสุ ภยทสฺสาวิโน, สมาทาย สิกฺขถ สิกฺขาปเทสู'ติ—อิติ ปาติโมกฺขสํวเร สมาทเปตพฺพา นิเวเสตพฺพา ปติฏฺฐาเปตพฺพาฯ
They should be encouraged, supported, and established in restraint in the monastic code: ‘Friends, please be ethical. Live restrained in the monastic code, conducting yourselves well and seeking alms in suitable places. Seeing danger in the slightest fault, keep the rules you’ve undertaken.’
‘เอถ ตุเมฺห, อาวุโส, อินฺทฺริเยสุ คุตฺตทฺวารา วิหรถ อารกฺขสติโน นิปกฺกสติโน, สารกฺขิตมานสา สตารกฺเขน เจตสา สมนฺนาคตา'ติ—อิติ อินฺทฺริยสํวเร สมาทเปตพฺพา นิเวเสตพฺพา ปติฏฺฐาเปตพฺพาฯ
They should be encouraged, supported, and established in sense restraint: ‘Friends, please live with sense doors guarded, mindfully alert and on guard, with protected mind, having a heart protected by mindfulness.’
‘เอถ ตุเมฺห, อาวุโส, อปฺปภสฺสา โหถ, ภเสฺส ปริยนฺตการิโน'ติ—อิติ ภสฺสปริยนฺเต สมาทเปตพฺพา นิเวเสตพฺพา ปติฏฺฐาเปตพฺพาฯ
They should be encouraged, supported, and established in limiting their speech: ‘Friends, please speak little. Put a limit on your speech.’
‘เอถ ตุเมฺห, อาวุโส, อารญฺญิกา โหถ, อรญฺญวนปตฺถานิ ปนฺตานิ เสนาสนานิ ปฏิเสวถา'ติ—อิติ กายวูปกาเส สมาทเปตพฺพา นิเวเสตพฺพา ปติฏฺฐาเปตพฺพาฯ
They should be encouraged, supported, and established in retreat: ‘Friends, please live in the wilderness. Frequent remote lodgings in the wilderness and the forest.’
‘เอถ ตุเมฺห, อาวุโส, สมฺมาทิฏฺฐิกา โหถ สมฺมาทสฺสเนน สมนฺนาคตา'ติ—อิติ สมฺมาทสฺสเน สมาทเปตพฺพา นิเวเสตพฺพา ปติฏฺฐาเปตพฺพาฯ
They should be encouraged, supported, and established in right perspective: ‘Friends, please hold right view and have right perspective.’
เย เต, อานนฺท, ภิกฺขู นวา อจิรปพฺพชิตา อธุนาคตา อิมํ ธมฺมวินยํ, เต โว, อานนฺท, ภิกฺขู อิเมสุ ปญฺจสุ ธมฺเมสุ สมาทเปตพฺพา นิเวเสตพฺพา ปติฏฺฐาเปตพฺพา”ติฯ
Those bhikkhus who are junior, recently gone forth, newly come to this teaching and training should be encouraged, supported, and established in these five things.”
