“ตีณิมานิ, ภิกฺขเว, สมณสฺส สมณิยานิ สมณกรณียานิฯ กตมานิ ตีณิ? อธิสีลสิกฺขาสมาทานํ, อธิจิตฺตสิกฺขาสมาทานํ, อธิปญฺญาสิกฺขาสมาทานํ—อิมานิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, ตีณิ สมณสฺส สมณิยานิ สมณกรณียานิฯ
“Bhikkhus, there are three duties of an ascetic. What three? Undertaking the training in the higher ethics, the higher mind, and the higher wisdom. These are the three duties of an ascetic.
ตสฺมาติห, ภิกฺขเว, เอวํ สิกฺขิตพฺพํ: ‘ติพฺโพ โน ฉนฺโท ภวิสฺสติ อธิสีลสิกฺขาสมาทาเน, ติพฺโพ โน ฉนฺโท ภวิสฺสติ อธิจิตฺตสิกฺขาสมาทาเน, ติพฺโพ โน ฉนฺโท ภวิสฺสติ อธิปญฺญาสิกฺขาสมาทาเน'ติฯ เอวญฺหิ โว, ภิกฺขเว, สิกฺขิตพฺพนฺ”ติฯ
So you should train like this: ‘We will have keen enthusiasm for undertaking the training in the higher ethics, the higher mind, and the higher wisdom.’ That’s how you should train.”
