Craving
सावत्थियं विहरति।
Sāvatthiyaṁ viharati.
At Sāvatthī.
“तं किं मञ्ञसि, राहुल, रूपतण्हा निच्चा वा अनिच्चा वा”ति?
“Taṁ kiṁ maññasi, rāhula, rūpataṇhā niccā vā aniccā vā”ti?
“What do you think, Rāhula? Is craving for sights permanent or impermanent?”
“अनिच्चा, भन्ते” …
“Aniccā, bhante” …
“Impermanent, sir.” …
“सद्दतण्हा …पे… गन्धतण्हा … रसतण्हा … फोट्ठब्बतण्हा … धम्मतण्हा निच्चा वा अनिच्चा वा”ति?
“saddataṇhā …pe… gandhataṇhā … rasataṇhā … phoṭṭhabbataṇhā … dhammataṇhā niccā vā aniccā vā”ti?
“… craving for sounds … craving for smells … craving for tastes … craving for touches … Is craving for thoughts permanent or impermanent?”

“एवं पस्सं, राहुल, सुतवा अरियसावको रूपतण्हायपि निब्बिन्दति …पे… सद्दतण्हायपि निब्बिन्दति … गन्धतण्हायपि निब्बिन्दति … रसतण्हायपि निब्बिन्दति … फोट्ठब्बतण्हायपि निब्बिन्दति … धम्मतण्हायपि निब्बिन्दति …पे… पजानाती”ति।
“evaṁ passaṁ, rāhula, sutavā ariyasāvako rūpataṇhāyapi nibbindati …pe… saddataṇhāyapi nibbindati … gandhataṇhāyapi nibbindati … rasataṇhāyapi nibbindati … phoṭṭhabbataṇhāyapi nibbindati … dhammataṇhāyapi nibbindati …pe… pajānātī”ti.
“Seeing this, a learned noble disciple grows disillusioned with craving for sights, sounds, smells, tastes, touches, and thoughts. …”
