“ฉหิ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต ภิกฺขุ อภพฺโพ อนุตฺตรํ สีติภาวํ สจฺฉิกาตุํฯ กตเมหิ ฉหิ? อิธ, ภิกฺขเว, ภิกฺขุ ยสฺมึ สมเย จิตฺตํ นิคฺคเหตพฺพํ ตสฺมึ สมเย จิตฺตํ น นิคฺคณฺหาติ, ยสฺมึ สมเย จิตฺตํ ปคฺคเหตพฺพํ ตสฺมึ สมเย จิตฺตํ น ปคฺคณฺหาติ, ยสฺมึ สมเย จิตฺตํ สมฺปหํสิตพฺพํ ตสฺมึ สมเย จิตฺตํ น สมฺปหํเสติ, ยสฺมึ สมเย จิตฺตํ อชฺฌุเปกฺขิตพฺพํ ตสฺมึ สมเย จิตฺตํ น อชฺฌุเปกฺขติ, หีนาธิมุตฺติโก จ โหติ, สกฺกายาภิรโต จฯ อิเมหิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, ฉหิ ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต ภิกฺขุ อภพฺโพ อนุตฺตรํ สีติภาวํ สจฺฉิกาตุํฯ
“Bhikkhus, a bhikkhu with six qualities can’t realize supreme coolness. What six? It’s when a bhikkhu doesn’t keep their mind in check when they should. They don’t exert their mind when they should. They don’t encourage the mind when they should. They don’t watch over the mind with equanimity when they should. They have bad convictions. They delight in identity. A bhikkhu with these six qualities can’t realize supreme coolness.
ฉหิ, ภิกฺขเว, ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต ภิกฺขุ ภพฺโพ อนุตฺตรํ สีติภาวํ สจฺฉิกาตุํฯ กตเมหิ ฉหิ? อิธ, ภิกฺขเว, ภิกฺขุ ยสฺมึ สมเย จิตฺตํ นิคฺคเหตพฺพํ ตสฺมึ สมเย จิตฺตํ นิคฺคณฺหาติ, ยสฺมึ สมเย จิตฺตํ ปคฺคเหตพฺพํ ตสฺมึ สมเย จิตฺตํ ปคฺคณฺหาติ, ยสฺมึ สมเย จิตฺตํ สมฺปหํสิตพฺพํ ตสฺมึ สมเย จิตฺตํ สมฺปหํเสติ, ยสฺมึ สมเย จิตฺตํ อชฺฌุเปกฺขิตพฺพํ ตสฺมึ สมเย จิตฺตํ อชฺฌุเปกฺขติ, ปณีตาธิมุตฺติโก จ โหติ นิพฺพานาภิรโต จฯ อิเมหิ โข, ภิกฺขเว, ฉหิ ธมฺเมหิ สมนฺนาคโต ภิกฺขุ ภพฺโพ อนุตฺตรํ สีติภาวํ สจฺฉิกาตุนฺ”ติฯ
A bhikkhu with six qualities can realize supreme coolness. What six? It’s when a bhikkhu keeps their mind in check when they should. They exert their mind when they should. They encourage the mind when they should. They watch over the mind with equanimity when they should. They have excellent convictions. They delight in Nibbana. A bhikkhu with these six qualities can realize supreme coolness.”
