Fetters

सावत्थिनिदानं।

Sāvatthinidānaṁ.

At Sāvatthī.

“पञ्चिमानि, भिक्खवे, इन्द्रियानि भावितानि बहुलीकतानि संयोजनप्पहानाय संवत्तन्ति। कतमानि पञ्च? सद्धिन्द्रियं …पे… पञ्ञिन्द्रियं—इमानि खो, भिक्खवे, पञ्चिन्द्रियानि भावितानि बहुलीकतानि संयोजनप्पहानाय संवत्तन्ती”ति।

“Pañcimāni, bhikkhave, indriyāni bhāvitāni bahulīkatāni saṁyojanappahānāya1 saṁvattanti. Katamāni pañca? Saddhindriyaṁ …pe… paññindriyaṁ—imāni kho, bhikkhave, pañcindriyāni bhāvitāni bahulīkatāni saṁyojanappahānāya saṁvattantī”ti.

“Bhikkhus, when these five faculties are developed and cultivated they lead to giving up the fetters. What five? The faculties of faith, energy, mindfulness, samādhi, and wisdom. When these five faculties are developed and cultivated they lead to giving up the fetters.”
