Fetters
“จตฺตาโรเม, ภิกฺขเว, ปุคฺคลา สนฺโต สํวิชฺชมานา โลกสฺมึฯ กตเม จตฺตาโร?
“Bhikkhus, these four people are found in the world. What four?
อิธ, ภิกฺขเว, เอกจฺจสฺส ปุคฺคลสฺส โอรมฺภาคิยานิ สํโยชนานิ อปฺปหีนานิ โหนฺติ, อุปปตฺติปฏิลาภิยานิ สํโยชนานิ อปฺปหีนานิ โหนฺติ, ภวปฏิลาภิยานิ สํโยชนานิ อปฺปหีนานิ โหนฺติฯ
One person hasn’t given up the lower fetters, the fetters for getting reborn, or the fetters for getting a continued existence.
อิธ ปน, ภิกฺขเว, เอกจฺจสฺส ปุคฺคลสฺส โอรมฺภาคิยานิ สํโยชนานิ ปหีนานิ โหนฺติ, อุปปตฺติปฏิลาภิยานิ สํโยชนานิ อปฺปหีนานิ โหนฺติ, ภวปฏิลาภิยานิ สํโยชนานิ อปฺปหีนานิ โหนฺติฯ
One person has given up the lower fetters, but not the fetters for getting reborn, or the fetters for getting a continued existence.
อิธ ปน, ภิกฺขเว, เอกจฺจสฺส ปุคฺคลสฺส โอรมฺภาคิยานิ สํโยชนานิ ปหีนานิ โหนฺติ, อุปปตฺติปฏิลาภิยานิ สํโยชนานิ ปหีนานิ โหนฺติ, ภวปฏิลาภิยานิ สํโยชนานิ อปฺปหีนานิ โหนฺติฯ

กตมสฺส, ภิกฺขเว, ปุคฺคลสฺส โอรมฺภาคิยานิ สํโยชนานิ อปฺปหีนานิ, อุปปตฺติปฏิลาภิยานิ สํโยชนานิ อปฺปหีนานิ, ภวปฏิลาภิยานิ สํโยชนานิ อปฺปหีนานิ? สกทาคามิสฺสฯ อิมสฺส โข, ภิกฺขเว, ปุคฺคลสฺส โอรมฺภาคิยานิ สํโยชนานิ อปฺปหีนานิ, อุปปตฺติปฏิลาภิยานิ สํโยชนานิ อปฺปหีนานิ, ภวปฏิลาภิยานิ สํโยชนานิ อปฺปหีนานิฯ
What person hasn’t given up the lower fetters, the fetters for getting reborn, or the fetters for getting a continued existence? A once-returner. This is the person who hasn’t given up the lower fetters, the fetters for getting reborn, or the fetters for getting a continued existence.
กตมสฺส, ภิกฺขเว, ปุคฺคลสฺส โอรมฺภาคิยานิ สํโยชนานิ ปหีนานิ, อุปปตฺติปฏิลาภิยานิ สํโยชนานิ อปฺปหีนานิ, ภวปฏิลาภิยานิ สํโยชนานิ อปฺปหีนานิ? อุทฺธํโสตสฺส อกนิฏฺฐคามิโนฯ อิมสฺส โข, ภิกฺขเว, ปุคฺคลสฺส โอรมฺภาคิยานิ สํโยชนานิ ปหีนานิ, อุปปตฺติปฏิลาภิยานิ สํโยชนานิ อปฺปหีนานิ, ภวปฏิลาภิยานิ สํโยชนานิ อปฺปหีนานิฯ
What person has given up the lower fetters, but not the fetters for getting reborn, or the fetters for getting a continued existence? One heading upstream, going to the Akaniṭṭha realm.
กตมสฺส, ภิกฺขเว, ปุคฺคลสฺส โอรมฺภาคิยานิ สํโยชนานิ ปหีนานิ, อุปปตฺติปฏิลาภิยานิ สํโยชนานิ ปหีนานิ, ภวปฏิลาภิยานิ สํโยชนานิ อปฺปหีนานิ? อนฺตราปรินิพฺพายิสฺสฯ อิมสฺส โข, ภิกฺขเว, ปุคฺคลสฺส โอรมฺภาคิยานิ สํโยชนานิ ปหีนานิ, อุปปตฺติปฏิลาภิยานิ สํโยชนานิ ปหีนานิ, ภวปฏิลาภิยานิ สํโยชนานิ อปฺปหีนานิฯ
What person has given up the lower fetters and the fetters for getting reborn, but not the fetters for getting a continued existence? One extinguished between one life and the next.
กตมสฺส, ภิกฺขเว, ปุคฺคลสฺส โอรมฺภาคิยานิ สํโยชนานิ ปหีนานิ, อุปปตฺติปฏิลาภิยานิ สํโยชนานิ ปหีนานิ, ภวปฏิลาภิยานิ สํโยชนานิ ปหีนานิ? อรหโตฯ อิมสฺส โข, ภิกฺขเว, ปุคฺคลสฺส โอรมฺภาคิยานิ สํโยชนานิ ปหีนานิ, อุปปตฺติปฏิลาภิยานิ สํโยชนานิ ปหีนานิ, ภวปฏิลาภิยานิ สํโยชนานิ ปหีนานิฯ
What person has given up the lower fetters, the fetters for getting reborn, and the fetters for getting a continued existence? A perfected one.
อิเม โข, ภิกฺขเว, จตฺตาโร ปุคฺคลา สนฺโต สํวิชฺชมานา โลกสฺมินฺ”ติฯ
These are the four people found in the world.”
