A Safe Place
“‘ඛේමං, ඛේමන්(අ)ති, ආවුසෝ, වුච්චති. කිත්තාවතා නු ඛෝ, ආවුසෝ, ඛේමං වුත්තං භගවතා”ති?
“Friend, they speak of ‘a safe place’. In what way did the Buddha speak of a safe place?”
“ඉධාවුසෝ, භික්ඛු විවිච්චේව කාමේහි …පේ… පඨමං ඣානං උපසම්පජ්ජ විහරති. ඒත්තාවතාපි ඛෝ, ආවුසෝ, ඛේමං වුත්තං භගවතා පරියායේන …පේ….
“First, take a bhikkhu who, quite secluded from sensual pleasures … enters and remains in the first jhāna. To this extent the Buddha spoke of a safe place in a qualified sense. …
පුන චපරං, ආවුසෝ, භික්ඛු සබ්බසෝ නේවසඤ්ඤානාසඤ්ඤායතනං සමතික්කම්ම සඤ්ඤාවේදයිතනිරෝධං උපසම්පජ්ජ විහරති, පඤ්ඤාය චස්ස දිස්වා ආසවා පරික්ඛීණා හෝන්ති. ඒත්තාවතාපි ඛෝ, ආවුසෝ, ඛේමං වුත්තං භගවතා නිප්පරියායේනා”ති.
Furthermore, take a bhikkhu who, going totally beyond the dimension of neither perception nor non-perception, enters and remains in the cessation of perception and feeling. And, having seen with wisdom, their defilements come to an end. To this extent the Buddha spoke of a safe place in a definitive sense.”
