Disrespect (2nd)
“सो वत, भिक्खवे, भिक्खु अगारवो अप्पतिस्सो असभागवुत्तिको ‘सब्रह्मचारीसु आभिसमाचारिकं धम्मं परिपूरेस्सतीऽति नेतं ठानं विज्जति। ‘आभिसमाचारिकं धम्मं अपरिपूरेत्वा सेखं धम्मं परिपूरेस्सतीऽति नेतं ठानं विज्जति। ‘सेखं धम्मं अपरिपूरेत्वा सीलक्खन्धं परिपूरेस्सतीऽति नेतं ठानं विज्जति। ‘सीलक्खन्धं अपरिपूरेत्वा समाधिक्खन्धं परिपूरेस्सतीऽति नेतं ठानं विज्जति। ‘समाधिक्खन्धं अपरिपूरेत्वा पञ्ञाक्खन्धं परिपूरेस्सतीऽति नेतं ठानं विज्जति।
“So vata, bhikkhave, bhikkhu agāravo appatisso asabhāgavuttiko ‘sabrahmacārīsu ābhisamācārikaṁ dhammaṁ paripūressatī’ti netaṁ ṭhānaṁ vijjati. ‘Ābhisamācārikaṁ dhammaṁ aparipūretvā sekhaṁ dhammaṁ paripūressatī’ti netaṁ ṭhānaṁ vijjati. ‘Sekhaṁ dhammaṁ aparipūretvā sīlakkhandhaṁ paripūressatī’ti netaṁ ṭhānaṁ vijjati. ‘Sīlakkhandhaṁ aparipūretvā samādhikkhandhaṁ paripūressatī’ti netaṁ ṭhānaṁ vijjati. ‘Samādhikkhandhaṁ aparipūretvā paññākkhandhaṁ paripūressatī’ti netaṁ ṭhānaṁ vijjati.
“Bhikkhus, it’s quite impossible for a disrespectful and irreverent bhikkhu with incompatible lifestyle to fulfill the practice dealing with supplementary regulations regarding their spiritual companions. Without fulfilling the practice dealing with supplementary regulations, it’s impossible to fulfill the practice of a trainee. Without fulfilling the practice of a trainee, it’s impossible to fulfill the entire spectrum of ethics. Without fulfilling the entire spectrum of ethics, it’s impossible to fulfill the entire spectrum of samādhi. Without fulfilling the entire spectrum of samādhi, it’s impossible to fulfill the entire spectrum of wisdom.
सो वत, भिक्खवे, भिक्खु सगारवो सप्पतिस्सो सभागवुत्तिको ‘सब्रह्मचारीसु आभिसमाचारिकं धम्मं परिपूरेस्सतीऽति ठानमेतं विज्जति। ‘आभिसमाचारिकं धम्मं परिपूरेत्वा सेखं धम्मं परिपूरेस्सतीऽति ठानमेतं विज्जति। ‘सेखं धम्मं परिपूरेत्वा सीलक्खन्धं परिपूरेस्सतीऽति ठानमेतं विज्जति। ‘सीलक्खन्धं परिपूरेत्वा समाधिक्खन्धं परिपूरेस्सतीऽति ठानमेतं विज्जति। ‘समाधिक्खन्धं परिपूरेत्वा पञ्ञाक्खन्धं परिपूरेस्सतीऽति ठानमेतं विज्जती”ति।
So vata, bhikkhave, bhikkhu sagāravo sappatisso sabhāgavuttiko ‘sabrahmacārīsu ābhisamācārikaṁ dhammaṁ paripūressatī’ti ṭhānametaṁ vijjati. ‘Ābhisamācārikaṁ dhammaṁ paripūretvā sekhaṁ dhammaṁ paripūressatī’ti ṭhānametaṁ vijjati. ‘Sekhaṁ dhammaṁ paripūretvā sīlakkhandhaṁ paripūressatī’ti ṭhānametaṁ vijjati. ‘Sīlakkhandhaṁ paripūretvā samādhikkhandhaṁ paripūressatī’ti ṭhānametaṁ vijjati. ‘Samādhikkhandhaṁ paripūretvā paññākkhandhaṁ paripūressatī’ti ṭhānametaṁ vijjatī”ti.
But it is quite possible for a respectful and reverent bhikkhu with compatible lifestyle to fulfill the practice dealing with supplementary regulations regarding their spiritual companions. Having fulfilled the practice dealing with supplementary regulations, it’s possible to fulfill the practice of a trainee. Having fulfilled the practice of a trainee, it’s possible to fulfill the entire spectrum of ethics. Having fulfilled the entire spectrum of ethics, it’s possible to fulfill the entire spectrum of samādhi. Having fulfilled the entire spectrum of samādhi, it’s possible to fulfill the entire spectrum of wisdom.”
