Exterior and Cause Are Suffering
“रूपा, भिक्खवे, दुक्खा। योपि हेतु, योपि पच्चयो रूपानं उप्पादाय, सोपि दुक्खो। दुक्खसम्भूता, भिक्खवे, रूपा कुतो सुखा भविस्सन्ति।
“Rūpā, bhikkhave, dukkhā. Yopi hetu, yopi paccayo rūpānaṁ uppādāya, sopi dukkho. Dukkhasambhūtā, bhikkhave, rūpā kuto sukhā bhavissanti.
“Bhikkhus, sights are suffering. The cause and reason that gives rise to sights is also suffering. Since sights are produced by what is suffering, how could they be happiness?

dhammā dukkhā. Yopi hetu, yopi paccayo dhammānaṁ uppādāya, sopi dukkho. Dukkhasambhūtā, bhikkhave, dhammā kuto sukhā bhavissanti.
Thoughts are suffering. The cause and reason that gives rise to thoughts is also suffering. Since thoughts are produced by what is suffering, how could they be happiness?
एवं पस्सं …पे… नापरं इत्थत्तायाऽति पजानाती”ति।
Evaṁ passaṁ …pe… nāparaṁ itthattāyā’ti pajānātī”ti.
Seeing this … They understand: ‘… there is no return to any state of existence.’”
