सरदसुत्त

Springtime

“सेय्यथापि, भिक्खवे, सरदसमये विद्धे विगतवलाहके देवे आदिच्चो नभं अब्भुस्सक्कमानो सब्बं आकासगतं तमगतं अभिविहच्च भासते च तपते च विरोचति च।

“Seyyathāpi, bhikkhave, saradasamaye viddhe vigatavalāhake deve ādicco nabhaṁ abbhussakkamāno sabbaṁ ākāsagataṁ tamagataṁ abhivihacca bhāsate ca tapate ca virocati ca.

“After the rainy season the sky is clear and cloudless. And when the sun rises, it dispels all the darkness from the sky as it shines and glows and radiates.

एवमेवं खो, भिक्खवे, यतो अरियसावकस्स विरजं वीतमलं धम्मचक्खुं उप्पज्जति, सह दस्सनुप्पादा, भिक्खवे, अरियसावकस्स तीणि संयोजनानि पहीयन्ति—सक्कायदिट्ठि, विचिकिच्छा, सीलब्बतपरामासो।

Evamevaṁ kho, bhikkhave, yato ariyasāvakassa virajaṁ vītamalaṁ dhammacakkhuṁ uppajjati, saha dassanuppādā, bhikkhave, ariyasāvakassa tīṇi saṁyojanāni pahīyanti—sakkāyadiṭṭhi, vicikicchā, sīlabbataparāmāso.

In the same way, when the stainless, immaculate vision of the teaching arises in a noble disciple, three fetters are given up: identity view, doubt, and misapprehension of precepts and observances.

अथापरं द्वीहि धम्मेहि निय्याति अभिज्झाय च ब्यापादेन च। सो विविच्चेव कामेहि विविच्च अकुसलेहि धम्मेहि सवितक्कं सविचारं विवेकजं पीतिसुखं पठमं झानं उपसम्पज्ज विहरति। तस्मिञ्चे, भिक्खवे, समये अरियसावको कालं करेय्य, नत्थि तं संयोजनं येन संयोजनेन संयुत्तो अरियसावको पुन इमं लोकं आगच्छेय्या”ति।

Athāparaṁ dvīhi dhammehi niyyāti abhijjhāya ca byāpādena ca. So vivicceva kāmehi vivicca akusalehi dhammehi savitakkaṁ savicāraṁ vivekajaṁ pītisukhaṁ paṭhamaṁ jhānaṁ upasampajja viharati. Tasmiñce, bhikkhave, samaye ariyasāvako kālaṁ kareyya, natthi taṁ1 saṁyojanaṁ yena saṁyojanena saṁyutto ariyasāvako puna imaṁ2 lokaṁ āgaccheyyā”ti.

Afterwards they get rid of two things: covetousness and ill will. Quite secluded from sensual pleasures, secluded from unskillful qualities, they enter and remain in the first jhāna, which has the (mental) joy and (bodily) pleasure born of seclusion, while thougths are being born and sustained analysis is going on. If that noble disciple passed away at that time, they’re bound by no fetter that might return them to this world.”
