Practice (1st)
सावत्थिनिदानं।
Sāvatthinidānaṁ.
At Sāvatthī.
“मिच्छापटिपत्तिञ्च वो, भिक्खवे, देसेस्सामि, सम्मापटिपत्तिञ्च। तं सुणाथ।
“Micchāpaṭipattiñca vo, bhikkhave, desessāmi, sammāpaṭipattiñca. Taṁ suṇātha.
“Bhikkhus, I will teach you the wrong practice and the right practice. Listen …
कतमा च, भिक्खवे, मिच्छापटिपत्ति? सेय्यथिदं—मिच्छादिट्ठि …पे… मिच्छासमाधि। अयं वुच्चति, भिक्खवे, मिच्छापटिपत्ति।
Katamā ca, bhikkhave, micchāpaṭipatti? Seyyathidaṁ—micchādiṭṭhi …pe… micchāsamādhi. Ayaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, micchāpaṭipatti.
And what’s the wrong practice? It is wrong view, wrong thought, wrong speech, wrong action, wrong livelihood, wrong effort, wrong mindfulness, and wrong samādhi. This is called the wrong practice.
कतमा च, भिक्खवे, सम्मापटिपत्ति? सेय्यथिदं—सम्मादिट्ठि …पे… सम्मासमाधि। अयं वुच्चति, भिक्खवे, सम्मापटिपत्ती”ति।
Katamā ca, bhikkhave, sammāpaṭipatti? Seyyathidaṁ—sammādiṭṭhi …pe… sammāsamādhi. Ayaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, sammāpaṭipattī”ti.
And what’s the right practice? It is right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right samādhi. This is called the right practice.”
