About Devadatta
ඒවං මේ සුතං—ඒකං සමයං භගවා රාජගහේ විහරති ගිජ්ඣකූටේ පබ්බතේ අචිරපක්කන්තේ දේවදත්තේ.
So I have heard. At one time the Buddha was staying near Rājagaha, on the Vulture’s Peak Mountain, not long after Devadatta had left.
අථ ඛෝ බ්රහ්මා සහම්පති අභික්කන්තාය රත්තියා අභික්කන්තවණ්ණෝ කේවලකප්පං ගිජ්ඣකූටං පබ්බතං ඕභාසේත්වා යේන භගවා තේනුපසඞ්කමි; උපසඞ්කමිත්වා භගවන්තං අභිවාදේත්වා ඒකමන්තං අට්ඨාසි. ඒකමන්තං ඨිතෝ ඛෝ බ්රහ්මා සහම්පති දේවදත්තං ආරබ්භ භගවතෝ සන්තිකේ ඉමං ගාථං අභාසි:
Then, late at night, the beautiful Brahmā Sahampati, lighting up the entire Vulture’s Peak, went up to the Buddha, bowed, stood to one side, and recited this verse in the Buddha’s presence:
“ඵලං වේ කදලිං හන්ති, ඵලං වේළුං ඵලං නළං; සක්කාරෝ කාපුරිසං හන්ති, ගබ්භෝ අස්සතරිං යථා”ති.
“The banana tree is destroyed by its own fruit, as are the bamboo and the reed. Honor destroys a sinner, as pregnancy destroys a mule.”
