In That Respect
“पञ्चिमानि, भिक्खवे, मातुगामस्स बलानि। कतमानि पञ्च?
“Pañcimāni, bhikkhave, mātugāmassa balāni. Katamāni pañca?
“Bhikkhus, there are these five powers of a female. What five?
रूपबलं, भोगबलं, ञातिबलं, पुत्तबलं, सीलबलं।
Rūpabalaṁ, bhogabalaṁ, ñātibalaṁ, puttabalaṁ, sīlabalaṁ.
Attractiveness, wealth, relatives, children, and ethical behavior.
रूपबलेन च, भिक्खवे, मातुगामो समन्नागतो होति, न च भोगबलेन—एवं सो तेनङ्गेन अपरिपूरो होति। यतो च खो, भिक्खवे, मातुगामो रूपबलेन च समन्नागतो होति, भोगबलेन च—एवं सो तेनङ्गेन परिपूरो होति।
Rūpabalena ca, bhikkhave, mātugāmo samannāgato hoti, na ca bhogabalena—evaṁ so tenaṅgena aparipūro hoti. Yato ca kho, bhikkhave, mātugāmo rūpabalena ca samannāgato hoti, bhogabalena ca—evaṁ so tenaṅgena paripūro hoti.
A female who has the power of attractiveness but not the power of wealth is incomplete in that respect. But when she has the power of attractiveness and the power of wealth she’s complete in that respect.
रूपबलेन च, भिक्खवे, मातुगामो समन्नागतो होति, भोगबलेन च, न च ञातिबलेन—एवं सो तेनङ्गेन अपरिपूरो होति। यतो च खो, भिक्खवे, मातुगामो रूपबलेन च समन्नागतो होति, भोगबलेन च, ञातिबलेन च—एवं सो तेनङ्गेन परिपूरो होति।

इमानि खो, भिक्खवे, पञ्च मातुगामस्स बलानी”ति।
Imāni kho, bhikkhave, pañca mātugāmassa balānī”ti.
These are the five powers of a female.”
