Yana Demyanchuk

Yana Demyanchuk (Ukrainian :Яна Дем'янчук, born 1993 in Ukraine) is a Ukrainian Artistic Gymnast who won gold on Beam at the 2009 European Artistic Gymnastics Championships. This was Yana's first major international competition and her immediate impact has revitalised the Ukrainian team ahead of the 2009 World Championships. She also qualified to the All Around Final, where she placed 12th.

Demyanchuk started gymnastics at 6 years of age at the insistence of her father. According to her words, she wants to be like Alina Kozich. Initially, she trained in Ivano-Frankivsk and later at the Republic Higher School of Physical Education in Kiev.

Yana is a big fan of popular Ukrainian singer Tina Karol, using her song "Pupsik" as her floor music.

Competition History

2007

Yana competed at a tri-country meet between Ukraine, Germany, and Catalonia(Spain).

For vault she competed a Yurchenko layout. For her floor exercise, her tumbling passes were a double pike, a double twist, a front one and a half twist to front layout, and a front handspring through to a layout full twist. On bars her release moves included a toe-on tkatchev, tkatchev, pak salto, and a double pike for the dismount. On beam her skills included front tuck, back tuck, arabian, roundoff layout, and a double tuck dismount.

2008

Yana competed at the Voronin Cup in Moscow, placing 3rd in the All-Around competition, 3rd in the Vault finals, 3rd in the Floor Exercise finals, and 3rd in the Uneven Bar finals.

She also competed at the Junior European Championships, placing 6th in the Balance Beam finals.

2009

In February, Yana competed at the 2009 WOGA Classic in Frisco, TX, where she placed 3rd in the All-Around, 1st on Uneven Bars, 2nd on Floor Exercise, and 4th on the Balance Beam.

She also competed at the 2009 Nadia Comaneci International Invitational, in Oklahoma City, OK, where she placed 2nd in the All-Around (only behind 2008 Olympian Sandra Izbasa!), 3rd on Vault, 1st on Uneven Bars, 4th on Balance Beam, and 3rd on Floor Exercise.

Yana had her breakout competition at the European Championships in April, where she qualified 4th into the All-Around competition, where she ultimately placed 12th. She also won gold in the Balance Beam finals.
