Talent

Talent is generally considered to be a personal gift or skill, possessed by relatively few, fortunate people. However, almost everyone has some degree of talent, or 'innate ability' in some particular field of endeavour; though few people are aware of their 'talents', or are able to make proper use of their talent as a result of that lack of awareness.

Talent (in the sense of natural ability or giftedness) is not the same as skill, which is a learned process, and one which is enhanced or inhibited by an underlying talent. Innate talent(s) is the result of early childhood neural development, during which time patterns of synaptic connections are laid down in the brain and become essentially fixed and enduring (hence capable of measurement) by around the age of fourteen.
