Ramesses (also commonly spelled Ramses pronounced /ˈræmsiːz/ or Rameses /ˈræməsiːz/) is the name conventionally given in English transliteration to 11 Egyptian pharaohs of the later New Kingdom period. The name essentially translates as "Born of the sun-god Ra".
