Papaver californicum

Papaver californicum is a species of poppy which is endemic to California, where it is found in the coastal counties south of the San Francisco Bay Area. It is known as the western poppy or fire poppy. Its bloom is a brilliant dark orange, and sometimes reddish or yellowish. It grows on a long, hairy stem. This flower easily colonizes disturbed areas, especially chaparral habitats which have recently burned.
