Odanak, Quebec

Odanak is an Indian reserve in the Centre-du-Québec region, Quebec, Canada. The population as of the Canada 2006 Census was 469. It is located near the mouth of the Saint-François River, neighbouring Saint-François-du-Lac and Pierreville. The word "Odanak" is the Abenaki word for "in the village".

Odanak is home to the Musée des Abénakis (Abenakis Museum), a museum dedicated to the history, culture and art of the Western Abenaki people. Several other businesses are present on reserve territory, including an independently owned gas station and a dairy specializing in the production of cheese (La Fromagerie d'Odanak).

Aboriginal filmmaker Alanis Obomsawin grew up in Odanak. Her latest film is a tribute to the people of Odanak, Waban-Aki: People from Where the Sun Rises. Her 2007 documentary film, Gene Boy Came Home, tells the story of Eugene "Gene Boy" Benedict. He was raised in Odanak, then went on to fight in the Vietnam War before returning to his roots in Odanak.

Odanak is on the site of the village of Saint Francis, which was burned in 1759 by Rogers' Rangers, who were seeking retribution and an end to the raids by the "Saint Francis" Indians on the British Colonies.
