National monument

Depending on the nation concerned, the term national monument may refer to one specific monument which aims to represent a nation, or a series of structures or areas deemed to be of national importance and therefore afforded protection by the state. In the Netherlands, Rijksmonument is the term (which translates literally "state monument").
