"In Public" is a song by American R&B singer Kelis, featuring American rapper Nas. It was written by Rockwilder and Kelis and produced by Rockwilder for Kelis' third studio album, Tasty (2003). As the song title implies, its lyrics deal with public sex.
The song was released as the album's fourth and final single in early April 2005. Like previous hits "Trick Me" and "Millionaire", it was restricted to European markets only and basically everywhere except the United States. No video was made for this song. Nevertheless, it managed to make it onto the UK Singles Chart, concretely landing at number seventeen, due to strong radio and club play. The track was originally due to be released as a double A-side single with the Raphael Saadiq-produced "Glow"; this did not happen and a reason for the change has never been given.
Chart performance
"In Public" was released as the fourth single from Tasty in Europe, but was not released elsewhere. Also "In Public" was supposed to have been issed as a double a-side alongside "Glow" but for unknown reasons this did not happen, and a reason for the change has never been given. It was at a great disadvantage on the charts as a music video for the song would not have been shot. "In Public" nevertheless still managed to enter the UK Singles Chart and became one of the very few songs to have reached the top twenty without a music video, peaking at number seventeen, becoming Kelis' fourth consecutive top twenty hit in the UK. However due to this it ended her string of top five singles; in fact "In Public" despite not having a music video peaked higher than Kelis' 2006 single "Bossy" which peaked at number twenty-two.
