I Wanna Pick You Up

"I Wanna Pick You Up" is a song written by Brian Wilson for the American pop band The Beach Boys. It was released on their 1977 album The Beach Boys Love You.

Two decades later, the song was covered by Darian Sahanaja, who would later tour as a backup musician with Brian Wilson. Sahanaja's remake opens with a keyboard riff similar to the opening of The Beach Boys' "You Still Believe In Me," and ends with vocal harmonies borrowed from a "Heroes And Villains" outtake that were eventually used on the finished 'Smile' version of the song. Sahanaja's cover of "I Wanna Pick You Up" was released as a B-side of a vinyl single of a cover of Wilson's still-unreleased "Do You Have Any Regrets." The A-side was recorded in Brian Wilson's classic style, while Sahanaja interpreted the B-side as if it were part of The Beach Boys' Smiley Smile album. The rare single was pressed on blue vinyl with a label that was a parody of X Records, which was the label that released The Beach Boys' first single, "Surfin'" b/w "Luau."
