In science, accretion is a process in which the size of something gradually increases by steady addition of smaller parts. This term is used with specific meanings in several scientific fields: Accretion (astrophysics)
Accretion (atmosphere) in meteorology, is the process by which water vapor in clouds forms water droplets around nucleation sites.
Accretion (geology) is an increase in size of a tectonic plate by addition of material along a convergent boundary.
Accretion (hydrography) is the enlargement of a watercourse by the inflow of groundwater and tributary surface water.
Accretion (coastal management) is the process where coastal sediments return to the visible portion of the beach following storm erosion.
